U.S. stocks FAQs
U.S. stock prices are set by how much buyers are willing to pay and how much sellers want to sell for. They are primarily influenced by company performance, global events or markets, and the domestic economy. Investors also use metrics like the P/E ratio to help assess a stock's current value.
Investing in U.S. stocks can be a worthwhile option for many investors due to the strength, size, and transparency of the U.S. financial markets. The U.S. market is the largest and most liquid in the world, with a combined market capitalization exceeding US$50 trillion. It offers access to leading global companies and provides key advantages such as strong capitalization, high liquidity, and broad diversification through stocks, bonds, ETFs, and ADRs. The market is regulated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), helping to ensure transparency, protect investors and maintain market integrity. Combined with the relative stability of the U.S. dollar and the country's leadership in innovation, the U.S. market presents a compelling option for long-term growth and portfolio resilience.
Yes, Schwab offers extended-hours trading, allowing you to buy and sell U.S. equities outside of regular U.S. exchange market hours (9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. U.S. ET). You can trade during the following sessions:
